The mission of the health center is to provide health care and services to the uninsured population of Shelby County. We believe that every person should have access to healthcare. By providing acute care, chronic care management, access to prenatal care and medications, we hope to build a healthier future for our community.
We care for Shelby County residents with a household income 200% of poverty level and below, which roughly equates to an annual income of $47,100 or less for a family of four. It is estimated that 17% of Shelby County residents are uninsured. Shelby County 2013 health statistics list unemployment rates at 8.7%, with 19% of children living in poverty (County Health Rankings). The demand for our services overtakes our budget and the ability to hire additional clinical staff.
The health center, its volunteers, and the staff work with various health care partners in the community to administer three main programs:
In 2012 alone, we totaled 3,484 patient visits and assisted 75 prenatal clients, over 218 women received PAP screens, and our patients received over $1,884,672 in prescription assistance.
